DoF Equality and Section 75
Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998 (the Act) requires public authorities, in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland, to have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and regard to the desirability of promoting good relations across a range of categories outlined in the Act.
DoF is committed to fulfilling these Section 75 obligations and to implementing its Equality Scheme effectively.

Disability Action Plan
Under Section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act (as amended by Article 5 of the Disability Discrimination (Northern Ireland) Order 2006), public authorities, when carrying out their functions must have due regards to the need to:
- promote positive attitudes towards disabled people and
- encourage participation by disabled people in public life
Section 49B of this Act places a duty on public authorities to prepare a plan outlining how they propose to fulfill the Section 49A duty in relation to their functions.

Annual Report to the Equality Commission
The Department's Equality Scheme commits the Department to submitting a formal review of progress, on an annual basis, to the Equality Commission, setting out the action taken to fulfill its Section 75 commitments. The Annual Report to the Equality Commission also includes an update on the Department's progress on implementing its Disability Action Plan.
