Who in addition to civil servants can participate in the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) Pension schemes?
Those working for employers who participate in the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (Northern Ireland (PCSPS(NI))
Those employers are:
- Schedule 1 bodies
- 'New Fair Deal' employers
Employees who are not civil servants but are eligible to participate in alpha
The Finance Minister has made a determination under section 25(5) of the Public Service Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2014 that the scheme for the payment of pensions and other benefits established by the Public Service (Civil Servants and Others) Pension Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2014 (“alpha”) will also relate to the following:
- employees of any of the following can join:
- Assembly Ombudsman for Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Complaints (AOCCNI)
- other bodies listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972
- holders of any office listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972
- employees of any employer on the list published by the Department of Finance and Personnel under section 3(3A) of the Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 (to the extent defined in that list)
