Finance Minister, Conor Murphy today allocated over £40 million as part of the 2019/20 January monitoring round process. This is the method by which departments can return unspent money for reallocation.
Speaking in the Assembly, Minister Murphy said: “With the end of the financial year fast approaching we have a short window to spend reallocations. I have therefore moved quickly to agree this monitoring round with Executive colleagues.
“I have allocated £10 million for children with Special Education Needs to help address the backlog in assessment and diagnosis, and cover costs such as transport and educational support.
“I have provided £1m for people affected by the contaminated blood scandal to help alleviate the financial hardship experienced by many of those affected.
“I have also awarded £1.1m to help take forward the recommendations of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry.”
Other allocations include:
- £19 million for the Education Authority to meet existing contractual pay costs for teachers and for other non-teaching staff in 2019-20.
- 4 million for Further Education Colleges.
- £2.8 million towards street lighting and winter services such as gritting.
- £2 million for the Belfast Transport Hub.
- £1.1 million to the Assembly for the increased costs associated with a fully operational Assembly and Executive.
