Neurodiversity: NICS Line Manager’s Toolkit
Date published:
Neurodivergent colleagues bring a wide range of skills and talents to our workplace and are a valued part of the Civil Service workforce.
The toolkit has been developed to help line managers better understand neurodivergence and how they can create supportive, neuro-inclusive working environments where neurodivergent colleagues can flourish and thrive.
The guide contains information on areas of neurodivergence including; Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, and some lesser-known areas such as Dyscalculia, Dysgraphia and Tic Disorders; the support that colleagues might need; along with further sources of information and support.
Although the toolkit has a specific focus on the role of line managers, all colleagues have a role to play in creating supportive and inclusive working environments - the toolkit will help deepen colleagues’ knowledge of alternative thinking styles which should be and valued and respected.
The toolkit has been developed by People and Organisational Development through engagement with Diversity Champions Network, staff networks, neurodivergent colleagues and external stakeholders including Equality Commission NI and disability sector representatives.
